This course is for people who would like to work in sterilisation services or who are already working in the area of sterilisation and reprocessing of instruments within a hospital health service and would like to upskill themselves to work as a Team Leader / Senior Technician. You don’t have to undertake the Certificate IIII qualification first.

Course Overview
Our course will help you be better equipped to manage the core elements in a sterilisation department, including implementing infection prevention and control, cleaning and disinfecting reusable medical devices, managing sterile stock and monitoring the equipment and quality of the cleaning, sterilisation and packaging processes and leadership skills.

Course Details
Entry Criteria
Students entering the course must meet the required entry criteria, educational standards and administrative requirements as per Mayfield Education’s Student Entry and Administration Policy and Procedure.
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or over.
- Attend a course information session at Mayfield Education.
- Attend and complete a pre course assessment including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LNN) robot on site at Mayfield Education.
- Attend a pre training interview at Mayfield Education.
- Have basic computer skills and access to a personal computer device including internet to enable connectivity with learning resources.
- Have COVID 19 vaccination history.
- Be able to provide the below checks within the first 8 weeks of the course:
- A current and clear National Police Check.
- A current and clear Working with Children Check.
- Healthcare category A immunisation record including flu vaccination. These are listed on the Department website.

Applications for enrolment close 2 weeks before orientation day.
Late applications will be considered for the next intake if received after the closing date.
Delivery
This course takes approximately ten to twelve months to complete.
The course includes both face to face and online learning, plus 40 hours of work placement.
Classes run 1 day a fortnight from 9.30am to 3.30pm at our Mayfield Education campus in Hawthorn.
Award
Graduates will receive a nationally recognised certificate and transcript of results showing completion of the full Certificate HLT47015 – Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services qualification.
If the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units where competency has been attained.
